Neal Stephenson Moves To Atlantic
Posted at 8:24AM Thursday 20 Mar 2008
Atlantic Books have acquired Neal Stephenson's new novel, Anathem, from The Sayle Literary Agency. The acclaimed Arthur C. Clarke Award winner and New York Times bestselling author of Cryptonomicon and The Baroque Cycle, sets this grand new adventure in a universe similar to but not our own. Here, a 3,400 year-old sanctuary shelters mathematicians and philosophers from an illiterate and unpredictable "saecular" world, a refuge from the dark ages and renaissances, wars and upheavals that plague the rest of humanity. Then comes the day when young Raz, together with his mentors and friends, must venture to the outside world – for now only they stand a chance of saving it from certain destruction. Atlantic will publish in September 2008. Editor-in-Chief Ravi Mirchandani comments: "There's no one quite like Neal Stephenson. He has a unique imagination, every book he has written has been unlike every other and yet at the same time inambiguously his own. Anathem manages to remind the reader of H.G. Wells, Umberto Eco and Mervyn Peake and yet be entirely and gloriously itself. I am entirely delighted he will be joining us at Atlantic."
