Press Release: Deals Done
Andre Dubus III To Heinemann

Posted at 7:39PM Wednesday 26 Mar 2008

William Heinemann has acquired, from Norton, UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, in the new novel by Andre Dubus III, bestselling author of HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG.

Set in Florida, THE GARDEN OF LAST DAYS opens with a young mother taking her daughter to work. Her usual babysitter is in hospital, so she has no option but to sit her child in front of a video while she earns her living. She can't really afford to do otherwise. But this young mother is a stripper at the Puma Club for Men, and when a patron, drunk and angry at being thrown out, comes across the little girl, things can't possibly end well. And on this particular evening, in early September, there is a more than usually creepy client at the Puma Club. His name is Bassam, and he's bound for Boston from where he'll set off to commit an atrocity against America. From these elements comes a relentless narrative about lust and domination, about American life at the moment before the world changed.

Jason Arthur, Publishing Director of William Heinemann said 'THE GARDEN OF LAST DAYS is storytelling by a writer at the height of his powers. Gripping and powerful, it's full of psychological tension and unforgettable characters.'

Andre Dubus III is the author of House of Sand and Fog, Bluesman and The Cage Keeper and Other Stories. He lives with his family north of Boston.

THE GARDEN OF LAST DAYS will be published as a William Heinemann hardback at the end of August 2008, and Andre Dubus III will be coming to the UK for publication.
