Press Release: Events
Pre-London Book Fair 2009 Seminar On Indian Publishing

Posted at 8:19AM Tuesday 10 Mar 2009

HOSTED BY THE SOCIETY OF YOUNG PUBLISHERS, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE BRITISH COUNCIL AND THE LONDON BOOK FAIR

Now in its third year, the UK Young Publishing Entrepreneur award aims to highlight the contribution that entrepreneurs make to the development of the UK's publishing industry by finding the most talented and giving them the chance to become part of the British Council's international network of young creative minds.

In January, the six finalists for the UKYPE 2009 award were given the chance to travel to India to take part in a tour of the publishing industry. India is also the market focus of this year's London Book Fair, and the winner of the UKYPE award will be announced at the book fair on 22nd April 2009.

The SYP seminar, to be held at the British Council on Wednesday, 25th March, promises to be an interesting and lively discussion, with great insights into the market and the industry infrastructure in India. The event will begin with a short introduction by the London Book Fair's Group Exhibition Director Alistair Burtenshaw, who will reveal the highlights of this year's LBF and offer advice on how to make the most of your time there. The six finalists of the UKYPE award 2009 will then talk about their experiences in India and what they learnt about where the current opportunities and challenges lay in a discussion chaired by Simon Littlewood, from the International Board of Directors for the Publishers Association.

The six - James Bridle, the founder of London-based Bookkake; Peter Collingridge, the founder of Apt Studio in London; Lucy Luck of London-based literary agency, Lucy Luck Associates; Davy Nougarede, a Director of Heavy Entertainment, London; Nii Parkes, Senior Editor at Manchester-based Flipped Eye Publishing; and Jessica Purdue, Rights Executive with Orion Publishing Group - began their tour at the Jaipur Festival, before moving on to Delhi and finishing in Kolkata.
