Tim GuestPosted at 12:25PM Thursday 06 Aug 2009 Paul Sidey, Tim Guest's editor at Hutchinson writes:
Tim only e-mailed me on Monday to suggest that we should meet up soon to talk about an idea he had for his next book. So the news of his sudden death comes as a jolting shock. He was just 34 and had recently got married.
Seven years ago, his very successful memoir, MY LIFE IN ORANGE, dealt with his early life in a series of communes modelled on the teachings of the teachings of the Indian guru, Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. It was an odd existence which took him and his mother from Suffolk to India, Germany and Oregon. En route, Tim was rechristened Yogesh.
But, based in North London, he and his avatar, Errol Mysterio, embarked on a very different journey through the electronic looking glass to examine the virtual universe. Tim was a diffident man, but when he came to the offices of Random House to give an illustrated talk about his second book, SECOND LIVES, he was confident, funny, enlightening and provocative. He even arranged for virtual contacts to answer questions on screen.
Hollywood was impressed too, and film rights were acquired for Brad Pitt.
There was nothing computer-generated about Tim. It is very sad that his distinctive voice has been silenced.
