Harvill Secker To Release Early E-Book Of Henning Mankell's New Novel

Posted at 8:09AM Monday 16 Nov 2009

'For me, Henning Mankell is by far the best writer of police mysteries today. He is in the great tradition of those whose works transcend their chosen genre to become thrilling

and moral literature' MICHAEL ONDAATJE

'The most impressive voice in the genre since Ian Rankin' MARK LAWSON, Guardian

Harvill Secker will release an early e-book version of Henning Mankell's new novel THE MAN FROM BEIJING on 7 January 2010 as a special one-off for digital readers. It will be the same price as the hardback (inclusive of VAT), which will be published in February.

Liz Foley, Harvill Secker Publishing Director says: 'We're very excited to be publishing the e-book edition of THE MAN FROM BEIJING one month before the print publication. Henning's books consistently feature in our top-selling e-book charts and we wanted to give our digital readers a treat with an early look at this incredibly gripping crime thriller'.

THE MAN FROM BEIJING is both a riveting and perceptive political thriller that stretches back over a hundred years, linking China and the USA of the 1860s with modern-day Beijing, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, and coming to a shocking climax in London's Chinatown.

It demonstrates Henning Mankell at the height of his powers, handling a broad historical canvas and pressing international issues with his exceptional gifts for insight and chilling suspense.

In 2010, Kenneth Branagh will also reprise his role as Wallander when three further novels – Faceless Killers, The Fifth Woman and The Man Who Smiled – will be adapted for transmission on BBC One. The TV tie-in editions will be published in paperback by Vintage and The Man Who Smiled is also available as an e-book.

Henning Mankell will be coming to the UK prior to publication for publicity and an exclusive event with Times+ and Waterstone's at the Institute of Education on 21 January.
