The Random House Group and Amazon have joined forces to promote a series of Hidden Gems: putting the spotlight back on once-loved titles. To qualify as a Hidden Gem, a title must have received high numbers of four or five star reviews and be considered deserving of greater exposure to new audiences who may have missed it first time round. The first wave of Hidden Gems features six fiction titles across a range of genres. They are: Gates of Fire (Stephen Pressfield, Bantam) From Doon with Death (Ruth Rendell, Arrow) Empire of The Ants (Bernard Werber, Corgi) Room 13 (Robert Swindells, Corgi Children's) House of Leaves (Mark Z Danielewski, Doubleday) The Miracle Life of Edgar Mint (Brady Udall, Vintage) One title, Empire of the Ants (Bernard Werber, Corgi) was previously unavailable and has been reprinted especially for this promotion. Each title will spend two weeks as the featured read on a special Hidden Gems promotional page together with additional content including author biographies, photographs and commentary from the editor. Amazon is supporting the promotion - which is flagged on the books homepage – with email marketing, links to the featured author's backlist, and features on key category pages ensuring great coverage across the site. Ben Wright, The Random House Group online sales director, said: "From our unparalleled range, we have selected some great reads that people may have missed out on previously and have created a promotion which we hope will re-invigorate sales of these classic titles." Amy Worth, Head of Books Buying for Amazon.co.uk Ltd, said: 'We are delighted to team up with Random House for this promotion which will see a selection of great titles being highlighted to a whole new audience. Only books which have received four and five star customer reviews will feature and we look forward to introducing these highly-rated titles to our customers. The Hidden Gems promotion runs until mid-February 2010.
