Bord Gáis Energy sign headline sponsorship agreement with the Irish Book Awards

The 'Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards 2010'

are now accepting submissions from publishers

and authors across the country

Bord Gáis Energy has signed a three-year headline sponsorship agreement with the Irish Book Awards, the only fully inclusive awards ceremony celebrating the wealth of Irish writing talent across the entire publishing industry. The Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards are supported by Irish book retailers, publishers and authors alike and this exciting development officially launches the 2010 campaign.

This partnership is part of Bord Gáis Energy's overall strategy to promote the importance and enjoyment of reading to people of all ages. In addition to the Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards, a unique national reading promotion will be launched across Ireland in April 2010 to further celebrate this new partnership.

This year the Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards will be moving from their traditional spring date to the later date of November 2010. The annual awards will now be made at the end of the year in which the books were published, which will provide a true reflection of the best Irish books, as chosen by the public, every year.

With many outstanding Irish books published in the last year speculation has already begun on the authors and books which will make the much celebrated shortlist. Submissions are now being accepted via www.irishbookawards.ie and every publisher in Ireland have been invited to nominate books for the nine publicly voted categories.

The new Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards, which began in their present multi-category format in 2007, have enjoyed an unprecedented level of support in the book industry with booksellers, libraries, publishers, authors as well as the voting public all engaged in the process of selecting and celebrating the best Irish books each year. Last year's winners included Seamus Heaney, Sebastian Barry, Edna O'Brien, Marian Keyes and Ronan O'Gara.

Key dates for the Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards 2010:

· The Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards 2010 are open for submissions via www.irishbookawards.ie until the closing date of September 30th 2010

· A nationwide Bord Gáis Energy reading promotion will be launched in April 2010 to celebrate this title sponsorship announcement

· The award shortlists will be announced in November 2010 and from that date in-store promotion amongst all retailers will take place

· Public voting will be accessible online at www.irishbookawards.ie from the date of the official shortlist announcement

· The Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards 2010 will take place in The Round Room at The Mansion House, Dawson Street, Dublin 2 in November 2010.

There are 10 categories in the Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards which incorporates the entire book trade in Ireland, making it the first industry wide event of its kind in the history of the Irish book sector.
