Children's Books Ireland Announce The Launch Of Ireland's First Children's Laureate

Children's Books Ireland have announced the launch of Ireland's first Children's Laureate – Laureate na nÓg.CBI are calling for nominations for the laureate position – from anyone who would like to put a name forward. The post will be awarded to an established and dynamic children's writer or illustrator and the position will be held for a period of two years. Nominations must be received by 5pm March 19th 2010. The criteria for considering a nomination are: * The Laureate must be deemed to hold an internationally recognised body of high quality children's writing and/or illustration. * The Laureate must be deemed to have made a particularly significant contribution to the field of children's literature in Ireland and have had a considerably positive impact on readers as well as other writers and illustrators. * The Laureate must demonstrate both eagerness and skill in engaging with children, young people, adults, and media and with the sector as a whole. * The Laureate should demonstrate an enthusiasm for promoting children's literature in general.
