Posted at 6:44PM Monday 12 Apr 2010

The Poetry Book Society selectors have picked two collections as the two top choices for the Children's Poetry Bookshelf for the Summer Term. They are 'The Humpback's Wail' by Chrissie Gittins (Rabbit Hole Publications), and 'Off Road to Everywhere' by Philip Gross (Salt). Philip Gross won the T.S. Eliot Prize in 2009 and the Signal Award for Children's Poetry in 1993; he is Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Glamorgan and also writes plays and novels for young adults. This is the third CPB selection for Chrissie Gittins making a hat trick for her three children's poetry collections; she also writes poetry for adults, short stories and radio drama. She is Writer-in-Residence with the London Borough of Lewisham and will be reading from 'Humpback' at the Hay Festival June 3rd.
