Record-breaking World Peace Day Event – 24 Hour Online Reading!
Posted at 6:13AM Tuesday 31 Aug 2010
United Nations have declared 21st September to be World Peace Day. To celebrate this event, author Priya Basil along with support from the Berlin International Literature Festival and Authors for Peace and their media partners, have organised a live online 24-hour reading event to express solidarity with the victims of war and oppression. The readings can be followed live on the internet, so people all around the world will have a chance to watch the event, and share in the spirit of Peace Day. Many authors who are participating at the Berlin International Literature Festival are taking part. Writers from every continent will also be integrated into this event, and will read from their work in their mother tongues. This is the first time that so many authors will read live online successively, and it is hoped that a new world record will be set with this event – and therefore to win some more lasting attention for World Peace Day. The event will start on 21st September 2010 at 00:00 hours CET (GMT+1). The British author, Priya Basil, who initiated the idea, will host the event throughout the 24 hours of the exciting program. Authors confirmed so far include: Joanne Harris, Kamila Shamise, Eliot Weinberger, Shashi Tharoor, Tahmima Anam, Gail Jones, and Nuruddin Farah. Further information about the participating authors and the weblink at which the event can be viewed, are available at: www.authorsforpeace.com and www.literaturfestival.com For all enquiries please contact: priya.basil@literaturfestival.com
