HarperCollins Acquires Bestselling Author Ian Whybrow's New Book Full Of Madcap-mischief And... Meerkats!

Posted at 10:07AM Monday 06 Sep 2010

London 6th September 2010 –

HarperCollins Children's Books have acquired world rights, including TV, film and merchandising, for author Ian Whybrow's touching and hilarious new book about the charismatic kings of the Kalahari – meerkats. The deal was concluded by Harriet Wilson, Editorial Director of HarperCollins Children's Books, and Rosemary Canter of United Agents.

This sparkling and uproariously new adventure, entitled Meerkat Madness, will be published in March 2011 and is intended for both boys and girls aged 7+.

Uncle Fearless was once the king of his clan and the star of a hit wildlife show. Badly injured by an eagle-owl, he has been reduced to babysitting a ragtag little band of meerkat kits and misses his glory days. So when the group find a mysterious parcel, he leaps on the opportunity to lead them on a fur-raisingly epic journey to return the package to its rightful human owners.

Ian Whybrow is the much-loved and bestselling author of over 100 books for children. Well known for his inventive and original humour, his stories have been translated all over the world and his characters brought to life both on stage and screen.

Harriet Wilson commented on the deal, "A funny and heart-warming meerkat story from Ian Whybrow? It doesn't get much better than that! Ian has an incredible ear for voices and ever-popular meerkats are the perfect subjects for his talents. He has created an unforgettable cast of characters who boys and girls will fall in love with. Meerkat Madness is an editor's gift and is sure to be a hit for spring."
