Press Release: Goods & Services Offered/Wanted
Bournemouth Literary Festival For Sale

Posted at 5:30PM Thursday 13 Jan 2011

13th January 2011 – Festival Director Lillian Avon has today announced exciting news that she will be selling the Bournemouth Literary Festival which she launched in September 2005.

Bournemouth Literary Festival was founded by Lillian Avon who heavily invested not only financially but also her spare time in the development of the festival. Avon has had support from the local voluntary committee, Bournemouth community, UK general publishing organisations, artists, businesses, embassies and other arts and public bodies. Names that have been featured at the festival include: Guy Browning, Vicky Halls, Howard Jacobson (winner of 2010 Man Booker prize), Catherine King, Ma Jian, Mario Reading, Nicholas Shakespeare, Theo Paphitis and Tina Stivicic.

Avon says, "I strongly believe in the Bournemouth Literary Festival but now want to move on to other personal projects. A small and successful and niche festival that celebrates the "world of words" is the ethos behind the festival and a new owner can capitalise on this and make the festival a bigger commercial success. Indeed a potential buyer could and should be a large publishing house or an independent". Avon added "the sale might challenge common perceptions on cultural value and I hope that it will stimulate lively debate."

The Bournemouth Literary Festival has mentored supported and showcased local artists and from it has sprung other organisations like Bournemouth Creative's (a creative networking group). The festival was also the inspiration behind the UK Business Books Festival which was launched in September 2010.

Debut Books, a subsidiary of the Bournemouth Festival and the website are also for sale. Debut Books publishes guides for debut writers and the website, which has an e-subscriber list of over 400 individuals and organisations, attracts between 10,000 – 20,000 visits every month.
