===========================
The 17th annual Durham Literature Festival can reveal its most ambitious programme to date - by bringing an assortment of writers to the region who will secure the festival's position as being the North-East's number one literary event.
In its approach to collating this year's programme DCA (Durham City Arts) have generated a line-up, which reflects the festival's ambition of showcasing top international talent but at the same time providing a platform for new and debut writers. The Durham Literature Festival welcomes the opportunity to provide audiences with a dynamic mix of fiction, poetry and wit - with its celebration of the written and spoken word!
The beauty of the Durham Literature Festival (DLF) is the level of variety and willingness to take risks and develop new partnerships. This year sees DLF working in collaboration with New Writing North with an event entitled A Balkan Exchange and with Seven Stories: The Centre for the Children's Books with an event called Armchair Journeys at The Clayport Library in Durham City.
Another aspect of the festival's vision is recognising the direct need to assist in the development of new and existing writers. This will be addressed through writing workshops and Open Mic evenings where people will be given the chance to work alongside professional writers and benefit from the priceless tips and practical advice on offer - the writers include: Anna Ralph, Ellen Phethean and Kitty Fitzgerald.
A high percentage of the events will be at the Gala Theatre - the Durham Literature Festival's home for 2007.
The elegance and grace of County Durham has attributed to the region being a wonderful location for people to visit on vacation or for day trips, the literature festival plays a big part in Durham's cultural calendar.
Alison Keeper, Director of DCA (Durham City Arts), said: "The Durham Literature Festival has been an important strand in the DCA (Durham City Arts) programme for almost 2 decades; and the 17th annual Durham Literature Festival is going to be the best one yet! Our inspiring line-up of events and workshops will provide everyone with the opportunity to celebrate their own writing and the writing of others."
