The Autumn Publishing Group, part of Bonnier Publishing, has revealed The SPLOTZ™, a new range of scented books, under its scent-sational new division, Smellessence.

The news follows the announcement at Bologna Children's Book Fair that the publisher has won the global rights to ground-breaking new technology based on micro-encapsulation and touch activation, placing different scents into the pages of books.

The first collection of books from the Smellessence list is entitled The SPLOTZ!™ and is expected to release in July 2012.

Perminder Mann, Managing Director of the Autumn Publishing Group, said: 'This advanced technology and the smells it creates are so real they take children's reading to a magical new level. We wanted to inject some fun into the reading experience and this is a powerful way to do just that. We are very excited to launch The SPLOTZ!™ as the first range – it's a fun, playful and original concept we have created with the potential to expand beyond books.'

Four collectable storybooks (RRP £2.99 each) containing nine smelly stickers will kick off the series. The SPLOTZ!™ centres on a group of cute characters each with a distinct smell and personality to match. Kids will want to collect them all!

Boasting a fragrant aroma of innovation, with strong base notes of creativity and top notes zinging with fun, the Smellessence technology is set to invigorate the children's book market. Most scents can be replicated and crucially for books, each scent has a shelf life of up to three years. All the fragrances are non-toxic, safe, child friendly and comply with the EN71 Standard and the new 2013 toy directive. Until now, the technology has only been used in the textiles and cosmetics industries.
