British Sports Book Awards 2013 Nominations

BRITISH SPORTS BOOK AWARDS 2013 NOMINATIONS
We now invite the UK book industry to make their nominations for the 2013 British Sports Book Awards. This is the 11th Sports Award ceremony, held for the first time in Lord's Cricket Ground on 21st May 2013 and will be heavily promoted within the media.
The surrounding sports book retail campaign will run in the weeks leading up to Father's Day on 16th June.
The categories are listed below.
All Sports Books published in the UK in hardback, paperback or audiobook in calendar year 2012 are eligible. Books that were shortlisted in last year's Awards are ineligible.
Timing: it is anticipated that the key winning titles in each of the relevant categories could be available in a paperback format for the winners campaign 22nd May – 16th June.
Publishing companies generally select one person to make nominations.
Nominations must be made online http://www.britishsportsbookawards.co.uk/submissions-2013/ by no later than midnight 25th January 2013.
Please nominate for the awards below and be aware that we need the following precise information:

We do not require copies of nominated titles at this time but may call them in at a later stage.
Before nominating please note that it is advisable that all the authors you nominate be able to attend the Awards Ceremony (21 May) in the event that they are shortlisted.
While there is no limit on nominations, please nominate only those titles you feel have a good chance of winning – and nominate no more than one title from any author in any of the categories below.
There will be shortlists of 6 in each category except Autobiography / Biography which will have 8 titles selected.
Publishers will be informed of the confirmed shortlists during w/c 25th March but these will not be announced to the media until mid-April.
Autobiography / Biography of the Year
A biography or autobiography of a sports-related personality, authorised or unauthorised.
Best Enhanced Sports-related Audiobook of the Year
For best read & produced audiobook of any sports-based book.
Best Publicity Campaign
Shortlist provided by the PPC. Nominations not required
Best Sports Bookseller
For a retailer or e-tailer, independent or chain, showing strong support for the Sports writing genre as a whole, through promotions and events.
Cricket Book of the Year
Any work of non-fiction related to cricket.
Football Book of the Year
Any work of non-fiction related to football.
Golf Book of the Year
Any work of non-fiction related to golf.
Horse Racing Book of the Year
Any work of non-fiction related to horse racing.
Illustrated Book of the Year
Best use of photographs and/or drawings in a sporting title.
Motorsports Book of the Year
Any work of non-fiction related to motorsports.
New Writer of the Year
The first sporting book by an author (who may already have been published in another genre).
Olympic book of the Year
New award this year, any work of non-fiction related to the London 2012 Olympics.
Outstanding Contribution to Sports Writing
For an author in recognition of a body of work over a significant period.
Rugby Book of the Year
Any work of non-fiction related to rugby.
Each of the specific sports category awards will be judged by the relevant Sport's Writers' Association. In addition, a specifically assembled panel under the chairmanship of BSBA Chairman David Willis will adjudicate over the Autobiography, New Writer, Illustrated & Retailer of the year. Further titles may be called in by the judging committees.
Jan- March - Judging process takes place reviewing sports books published during 2012.
w/c 25th March - Confidential shortlist released to The Booksellers Association, major retailers, libraries and supermarkets to plan retail campaign.
Mid-Apr - 21st May – Awards Launch & Shortlist Campaign phase. Media coverage for each category, official POS launched including posters and official stickers made available to publishers.
21st May - Awards Ceremony after Dinner at The Lord's Cricket Ground.
25/26th May – programme coverage on SkySports TV
22nd May-16th June - Winners Campaign phase up to Father's Day. Widespread media coverage for the category winners, official Winners POS launched, including posters, stickers & official free-to-consumer 36pp sports book magazine.
Each title shortlisted will, as before, carry a small levy to cover the costs of the project management of the campaign and the design, printing and distribution of the official pos. This levy will be reduced from the 2012 level.
The Nursery End of the Lord's Cricket Ground is the venue for the 2013 British Sports Book Awards on 21st May (the day after the end of the New Zealand summer Test match. Single tickets are available at £195 + vat. To reserve tickets or tables for the event please contact:
