EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, IBPAJob Description The Independent Book Publishers Association, with nearly 3,000 members, the largest book publishing member association in the U.S., seeks an aggressive, enterprising executive director. Founded in 1983, IBPA represents the segment of the book publishing industry with by far the best growth rates in the industry. IBPA's assets include: a knowledgeable staff, a robust digital infrastructure, an annual publishing conference, digital and print award programs, scores of member benefits, strong affiliations within the industry, access to all major industry conferences, and a board of directors filled with dedicated and experienced industry leaders. IBPA seeks to leverage its strength, its members, and its assets under a leader with the skills and spirit to take advantage of the unique growth opportunity presented by the current publishing revolution. QUALIFICATIONS 1. Demonstrated entrepreneurial and leadership abilities a. in communications/media, both written and spoken, including public speaking b. in working with a board of directors c. in direct management and oversight of office staff d. in promoting the vision and goals of a national member organization 2. Experience in the book industry: a. familiarity with print and digital products b. proficiency in Social Media and common computer software c. ability to oversee monetization and enhancement of IBPA website to serve members and reach out to the broader publishing community d. familiarity with digital analytics 3. Demonstrated project management skills sufficient to effect: a. the creation of an annual business plan that supports the strategic goals and objectives as defined by the IBPA Board of Directors b. the building of partnerships between IBPA and other organizations c. the development of IBPA initiatives including an increase of membership and benefits, award programs, and marketing programs d. budgetary/fiscal processes e. planning and promoting IBPA's annual Publishing University 4. Opportunity for extensive domestic and international travel a. Attendance at domestic book publishing conferences, industry wide informational /educational conferences, international book fairs, writer's conferences and Board of Director quarterly meetings b.
