Press Release: Miscellaneous Announcements
Bonnier Publishing To Launch Innovative Non-fiction List
Posted at 10:34AM Monday 28 Jan 2013
Red Lemon Press, part of Bonnier Publishing, is a new non-fiction UK trade list with strong international appeal, publishing books for adults and children of all ages that aims to bring solid facts in unexpected ways to anyone who is curious to know more about the world and beyond.
Headed up by Martina Challis, the list will launch in autumn 2013, creating a distinctive brand to complement Hot Key Books, bringing the best work in non-fiction to a growing and fast-changing audience, using expert writers, illustrators, designers and paper engineers to create exciting, interesting content that is rich in information in a variety of physical and digital formats.
The launch list will include THE EVOLUTION OF ART by pioneering zoologist, broadcaster, bestselling author and artist Desmond Morris, in which Morris combines his deep understanding of human behaviour and his love of art to create a complete history of the subject from its roots in early human evolution through to the future of art.
COSMIC MENAGERIE by award-winning author, illustrator and astrophysicist Dr Mark Garlick, will offer a unique, up-close look at the universe. From neutron stars to red supergiants, many yet unseen phenomena will be explained and illustrated.
Both THE EVOLUTION OF ART and COSMIC MENAGERIE will contain image-recognition technology that will enable the reader to see animations of the illustrations and extra content including author interviews and videos.
BEING A BOY, a brutally frank and funny take on puberty for teenage boys, by ex-teacher and Queen of Teen nominee James Dawson, completes the launch list so far. This humorous guide, illustrated by cartoonist Spike, will explain everything boys need to know about growing up.
Martina Challis, Publisher of Red Lemon Press, said, "Non-fiction plays an important part in engendering a love of reading in children, especially boys who may be less interested in stories and novels. It is also a field where fantastically well-informed authors have a lot to offer to inquisitive minds of all ages. I am looking forward to taking their work to its widest audience, both physically and digitally."
Sarah Odedina, MD of Red Lemon Press, said, "It is very exciting to announce the launch of Red Lemon Press. Martina and her very talented editorial, design and sales and marketing teams will create a dynamic, innovative and quality list of non-fiction books for readers of all ages. It will be a wonderful companion to the Hot Key Books list and beautifully completes our profile as an all-round children's publisher."
Bonnier Publishing will continue to update the Weldon Owen backlist for their international customers, offering a range of new high-quality formats as well as traditional reprints and digital editions.
Hot Key Books and Red Lemon Press will share sales and marketing teams and Weldon Owen and Red Lemon Press will share foreign rights and co-edition teams.
