Norstedts Acquires Dark Chapter By Winnie M Li In Sweden In The 1st Worldwide Deal For This Debut

Posted at 12:20PM Monday 16 Nov 2015

Gunilla Sondell at Norstedts has acquired Swedish rights to DARK CHAPTER, the debut novel by Taiwanese-American author Winnie M Li, represented by Pontas Literary & Film Agency.

Offers for English rights are pending, and it is indeed unusual to have a Swedish deal be the first deal in the world for an Anglo-American debut novel.

Gunilla Sondell of Norstedts wrote about DARK CHAPTER: "I have read this book and am deeply impressed with the way Winnie M Li handles the subject matter in her novel. Never succumbing to neither sentimentality nor prejudice. The narrative is very strong and yet the tone is restrained which gives the reader plenty of space to consider what's really taking place. And it is also very literary. We would launch it as a novel but could work together with women's organizations in order to spread the word about the book. Our publishing director Susanna Romanus also said something important: It's very important that these stories on female conditions and female sexuality be told and especially by women who have the experience. Sexual violence is omnipresent in the world today."

Norstedts are also the publishers of Margaret Atwood, Elena Ferrante, Stieg Larsson, Colm Toibin, Marie Darrieussecq, and Susan Abulhawa among others in Sweden.

Swedish publication is scheduled for Spring 2017.
