Penguin Ships Its Half Billionth Unit

Penguin is pleased to announce that its Distribution Centre in Rugby has shipped its half billionth unit. The half billionth unit was hand picked on the 8th July and delivered to Foyles where the book was presented to Sam Husain, Chief Executive of Foyles at the Charing Cross Road store. This is a key milestone for Penguin and it seems a fitting tribute that the half billionth unit has been shipped in Penguin's 75th year. The half billionth unit shipped was J.D Salinger's Catcher in the Rye, in a tribute to the American author who was catapulted to fame in 1951 with the publication of the novel, and who passed away in January of this year. In June, Penguin imprint Hamish Hamilton relaunched its Salinger list with new covers which the author had approved. The Catcher in the Rye frequently appears close to the top of the list of favourite books of millions of readers and he was the bestselling Hamish Hamilton author ever.
